The Ultimate GPU for 8K Content Creation and 360 Video Stitching

Raw 8K video content is currently the most advanced standard for video playback. High-end cameras have the capability of capturing reality in 8K frames, but current playback solutions are often unable to display these frames at full frame rate (>30 FPS) to ensure a smooth or real-time experience. As a result, video playback or editing is often jerky and slow, leading to longer editing times and user frustration.

With the Radeon™ Pro SSG, video playback performance can not only meet, but exceed, real-time performance requirements because of the card’s ability to process and present this same data at speeds that far exceed typical solid state mass storage. In addition, smooth scrubbing through raw 8K content now becomes possible as the user has almost instant access to any position in the video stream.

By being able to handle these large data streams, the Radeon™ Pro SSG card can empower the user to play back, manipulate, stitch and post-process raw 8K content similar to how current solutions handle 4K content today.

    Adobe After Effects is a digital visual effects, motion graphics, and compositing application developed by Adobe Systems and used in the post-production process of film making and television production. Among other things, After Effects can be used for keying, tracking, compositing and animation. It also functions as a very basic non-linear editor, audio editor and media transcoder.  The Radeon™ Pro WX 9100 workstation graphics cards provides superior, high-end graphics performance for any stage of the After Effects content creation pipeline.
  • Adobe Premiere Pro
    Adobe Premiere Pro is a popular video editing application that is used by many people and organizations from professional studios, freelance artists, universities, to every-day users.  It supports high resolution video editing at up to 10,240 × 8,192 resolution, at up to 32-bits per channel color, in both RGB and YUV color space. Audio sample-level editing, VST audio plug-in support, and 5.1 surround sound mixing are available. Adobe Premiere Pro’s plug-in architecture enables it to import and export formats beyond those supported by QuickTime or DirectShow, supporting a wide variety of video and audio file formats and codecs on both MacOS and Windows. In the media and entertainment market, tasks like animation, post-production, and virtual reality (VR), require high-end graphics to support these workloads.  They depend on compute speed and driver performance more than ever for shorter load and rendering times. Close partnerships with top software makers, and continuous improvements to performance and quality of AMD drivers have paid off by pairing reliability with the raw power offered by the Radeon™ Pro SSG professional graphics card.

Raytracing renders a 3D image with photorealistic results by fully simulating the interaction of light as it encounters a virtual object; this technique creates large data sets that must be transformed as the viewer’s perspective changes. These data sets can grow exponentially as additional geometry, and use of large quantities of high resolution texture maps are accounted for.

For 3D rendering workflows, the GPU memory limit ultimately defines how much a user can do because their entire scene and all associated reference files like texture maps need to fit into the GPU memory.  If they don’t, then there is no advantage to using GPU rendering and people fall back to rendering on the CPU. The Radeon Pro SSG breaks today’s ‘standards’ of available memory where one would typically see 16, 24 or 32GB of graphics memory on the high end.  With 2TB of memory on the Radeon Pro SSG, there’s virtually no rendering workload that can’t be run directly off of the Radeon Pro SSG.

  • Autodesk Maya
    Maya is a professional application used by studios, developers and content creators to generate 3D assets for use in film, television, game development and architecture. Radeon ProRender plug-in for Maya has full support for the out-of-core rendering feature found on the Radeon™ Pro SSG which allows the application to tap into the full 2TB of memory found locally on the card. This allows users with very large models to render fully accelerated by the GPU. Maya GPU rendering has also been optimized for OpenCL and now provides fast rendering performance on the Radeon™ Pro SSG.Autodesk also has an Adobe After Effects plug-in called ‘Live Link’. This feature creates a live link between Maya and After Effects to allow users to view a scene in both programs simultaneously, as well as perform changes in Maya and see them update in After Effects in realtime. With both applications supporting SSG technology, users will benefit greatly with the almost limitless memory, advanced features and superior performance of the Radeon™ Pro SSG.
  • Autodesk 3ds Max
    Autodesk 3ds Max is an application that spans across both design and manufacturing as well as media and entertainment industries. As a digital content creation (DCC) tool, it has one of the largest user bases, and is a complete solution for major product pipelines from modeling and animation, to rendering. Autodesk 3ds Max support the Radeon ProRender plug-in, which allows for out-of-core rendering with HBCC and SSG technologies from AMD. This allows users with very large models to render fully accelerated by the GPU when using the Radeon™ Pro SSG graphics card. Design visualization teams authoring solutions for massive datasets can leverage the state-of-the-art Radeon™ Pro SSG for VR deliverables that would not otherwise ‘fit’ into common GPU solutions.
  • Blender
    Blender is a free and open source application used by universities, freelance artists and some studios for M&E content creation. Blender provides a comprehensive set of open source tools for content creation that includes asset design, rigging and animation, sculpting and texturing, rendering, VFX simulation, camera tracking and compositing, video editing as well as color grading. The Radeon™ Pro SSG is supported via the Radeon ProRender plug-in for Blender, which has full support for out-of-core rendering. This permits users with very large models to use GPU acceleration to render their creations quickly.
